Ninety-five degrees every day
No air conditioning
"Going to Colorado to cool off?"
That's what they said
Said they were jealous
Not so much
Go home to Houston to cool off
Night we got home
I torqued the A/C down
Way down
Got under the covers
Even shivered once
It was good
I'm spoiled
Way too comfortable in the world
My car. My house. My chair. My bed.
Hard to read the Bible and hear God tell us not to love the world.
Oh sure, it's easy to hear such words when...
Talking about hate crimes and exploitation of people.
"Do not love the world."
But when it comes to creature comforts.
"Do not love the world."
I like my car. My house. My chair. My bed.
I like granola bars and blue jeans and the smell of Harley-Davidson stores.
I like coffee and crisp white paper and the sound of rain.
I like bookstores and hiking and black and white photographs.
I don't like the heat in Purgatory, Colorado.
But there's more to the world
And more we need to learn to like less.
